Europcar introduce iPhone mobile car hire service

 

Continental car hire specialist Europcar has introduced a new booking service which will allow customers to rent vehicles via their mobile phone.

Designed specifically for the more sophisticated mobile phones with full internet browsing capacity, the new booking service will be compatible with Apple’s iPhone, RIM BlackBerrys and a number of other smartphones.

Europcar has been updating its services in order to align itself with the latest technologies and trends. Last month the company announced a new reservation booking tool as part of a strategic alliance with hotel chain Accor.

Catering to the growing online mobile market is the next logical step for the car rental company: “We want to stay at the cutting edge of innovation and forge close relationships with our customers,” commented Guirec Grand-Clement, Europcar’s global sales and marketing director.

Travellers will be able to book their car hire along with additional equipment such as sat nav or child booster seats all from their mobile. There is even an iPhone app which automatically finds the nearest Europcar depot depending on where the user is.

“This new service illustrates our commitment and provides greater flexibility for the most mobile among these customers. As a result, every owner of a mobile phone with Internet access can now reserve a Europcar vehicle at any time at any location in our network around the world,” said Mr Grand-Clement.

With more than 8 million adults in the UK using their phones to access the internet this year, catching customers searching for cheap flights, hotels and car hire whilst on their phone is a key market segment for Europcar to exploit.

 

Thomas Cook launches World Cup travel packages

 

In apprehension of the up and coming 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, Thomas Cook has launched a package deal that includes 35 nights stay and tickets to all of England’s games. Prices are available at a starting price of £8,200 and for their money fans will get tickets to all matches that England play in and if they get kicked out at any point of the tournament fans will still receive tickets for the remaining games that even includes the final.

 

The prices are per person and it is based on two people sharing a room. Airlines tickets will be with British Airways that depart from London and people making use of this price will receive category 3 tickets. There are however all category tickets available and a full itinerary will be released after the draw for the World Cup takes place on the 4th of December. Hotels and accommodation will be provided in Johannesburg as well as Cape Town and the deal will also include transfers to and from the matches and your accommodation as well as receiving 24-hour representation if you have any problems.

 

If a game is not held in Cape Town or Johannesburg, customers will incur a small sur charge for the domestic flight to the match. The managing director for Thomas Cook claims that the package deal has come after unprecedented interest from England fans wanting to travel to the World Cup as part of a deal.
